New Employee Guide

Student Information System (SIS)

The Student Information System (SIS) is not only used by students, but also employees to manage courses and submit grades. It is sometimes referred to as Banner, or Self Service Banner (SSB). It can also be used to get information regarding your Computer User ID (CUID) and Langara provided Office 365 email account. You log into it using your nine digit Langara ID number (found in your profile in Workday) as well as a PIN (password). This PIN is a separate password from the Computer User ID/email password, and is detailed in your onboarding.

If you cannot log into the Student Information System, as an employee you can do the following:

  • Use the information from your onboarding email to figure out your initial password
  • If that does not work submit a Langara ID Password Reset

Computer User ID (CUID)

Your Computer User ID is used to sign into Langara managed computers and myFiles (online file management). This is the first part of your Langara provided email address, and is typically your first initial followed by your full last name, e.g jsmith. You can find your Computer User ID in the Student Information System under the Change Login Profile - Maintain Computer User ID page. This account shares a password with your Langara provided Office 365 email account, and must be created before you can use it.

You can create (and later reset) your Computer User ID password at

  • If you were able to find your Computer User ID you can follow the steps on that page to reset your password, or look at the related article (Activate your Computer User ID (Employees)) for more in-depth steps

Office 365 Email

Your Langara provided Office 365 email is used to access Workday, Sharepoint, Brightspace and many other applications. This is your similar to your Computer User ID, but has added to the end of it, e.g. can find your email address in the Student Information System under the Change Login Profile - Maintain Computer User ID page with your Computer User ID.

As stated above, your email shares its password with your Computer User ID, and it is created/reset at the same time.

2 Factor Authentication (2FA)

2 Factor Authentication is a security measure that is a requirement for all employees. It is an additional login step that comes after signing in with your username and password. We recommend that you download the Microsoft Authenticator app onto your phone and use that for 2FA.

You can use either of the following guides to set up your 2FA:

  • If you prefer written instructions with images, you can use the following guide
  • If you prefer to watch a video with instructions, you can use this video

Brightspace is where you can manage your course materials and content. You log into it using your Langara provided email address.

As a general rule, if you are experiencing issues with Brightspace (apart from logging in) it is best to reach out to the Educational Technology department (EdTech) for help.
