Overview
Langara maintains multiple network drives for storing and sharing information. These network drives are high-availability and regularly backed up to prevent data loss. They are typically mapped as a drive letter (E: through Z:) on Windows PCs and Folders on Macs. They are also accessible remotely via Langara MyFiles.
An employee receives a base level of access dependent on their Department and job position. This access will only be available on the start date for a new employee or the start date that a current employee moves to a new department/position. Please submit the Folder Access Request only after the employee has started their contract and checked their current folder access to determine what, if anything, is missing.
NOTE - Requests need to come from or be approved by the person you report to. If you are asking for someone else and they report to you, then that is fine.
Before you make request
CAUTION - 1 request per person. Please do not request folder access for multiple people in one ticket. You must make a new request for each person that needs folder access.
NOTE - IT is not allowed to give access based on someone else's access. You must provide the specific folder(s) and type of access for each one that is needed.
NOTE - IT cannot provide access to a new employee who's contract has not yet started.
To request folder access, please have the following information ready:
- Exact Folder path(s) (Eg. J:\DIV-CHAIR\PD FUNDS, J:\FINANCE\Specific Folder)
- Type of access (Read-Only or Read/Write)
- Name of the person who requires access (one person per request)
And then click on the Request Folder Access button.
After you make request
You will receive an email notification from the email system with a ticket number for reference. You may reply to the email if you have any further details or questions.
Upon completion of the request, you will receive an email from IT requesting that you confirm all is as requested.
