NOTE: If you don't have access to your old phone with the authenticator app on it, submit an IT help ticket to reset your 2FA HERE

Solution

  1. Install Microsoft Authenticator on your new mobile phone.
  2. If you've enabled Cloud Backup in Microsoft Authenticator on your old phone and you want to recover on your new phone then follow this step, otherwise go to step 3
    1. Choose to recover from Cloud Backup when you open Microsoft Authenticator on your new phone and enter the credentials for the Microsoft account you used when you set Cloud Backup up.
      1. This will populate Microsoft Authenticator on your new phone with all the accounts you set up in Microsoft Authenticator on your old phone.
      2. Locate the Langara College account in Microsoft Authenticator on your new phone and delete it.
  3. In Microsoft Authenticator on your new phone click the + at the top right
  4. Choose Work or school account
  5. Click on Sign in
  6. Enter your Langara email account and password
  7. You will be presented with a code, which you should enter into the Microsoft Authenticator app on your old phone.
  8. A screen will appear called Set up phone sign-in with 2 sections: Device Registration and Set screen lock. If there is no check mark to the left of either, you will need to complete the unchecked step. There shouldn't be a check mark next to the Device Registration item since this is a brand new phone.
  9. Click Continue. (If both items have check marks you can click on Skip)
  10. Register your phone
  11. If you haven't already done so, set your screen lock method
  12. Click Finish - Microsoft Authenticator is now set up on your new device.
  13. You can delete the authenticator app from your old phone.
