New Teams FAQ

Overview

Microsoft has updated their Teams application, rebuilding it from the ground up. This has resulted in 2 distinct applications; Classic Teams and New Teams. New Teams replaces Classic Teams starting March 6, 2024. The following covers the most common questions regarding the New Teams client.

  1. New Teams does not seem to work properly? 
    • A: If you are trying New Teams for the first time and it's not working as expected, please start by restarting your computer and trying again. If it's still not working you can raise a ticket using this service. If you need Teams right away you can click on the toggle to return to Teams Classic by clicking on the ellipses to the left of your profile photo in the top right of the window. See image below.

  2. I am unable to connect my wireless headset in meetings using New Teams client? 
    • A: Remove the headset from hardware devices and add as new device and reconnect. With New Teams it’s a known issue where an already connected headset was not identified by the program. 
  3. I am unable to toggle back to Classic Teams. 
    • A: Steps  
      1. Right-click on the Teams app icon in your Taskbar and select Quit. 
      2. Open File Explorer. In the address bar, enter the following text: %appdata%/Microsoft/Teams
      3. Select the arrow, or press Enter. You're taken to the contents of that folder. 
      4. Delete all contents of the folder (don’t worry, Teams app won't be deleted, nor any of your custom settings). If you get any messages that a certain file or folder can’t be deleted, select Skip. 
      5. Relaunch the Teams app, then right-click on the icon and select Quit. 
      6. Relaunch the Teams app one more time, and you should see the toggle switch.

  4. What is not working in New Teams?

  5. I need to know more about tips and shortcuts in New Teams.

  6. As a Mac user I am unable to do screen-sharing in my meeting. 
    • A: Please log a ticket here.
  7. For issues such as; "I am kicked out of the meeting", "I'm unable to join a meeting", "No prompt for meeting started", please restart New Teams.
