Overview
Students and employees can connect Windows laptops and tablets to the eduroam Wi-Fi network when on campus.
NOTE - Students and employees now need to authenticate with Microsoft Authenticator app when signing in to register their device with eduroam. Devices will work for 2 years before having to be re-registered.
CAUTION: eduroam WiFi will not work on Windows phones
Solution
CAUTION: Your Computer User ID must be activated before you can connect to Wi-Fi. If you have not activated your account, please follow the instructions in Activate your Computer User ID and Email (students) article.
Connect your Windows laptop or tablet to eduroam by following these steps.
- Click the Internet access icon in the system tray to see a list of networks
- Select Langara in the list of networks and click the Connect button
- Do not put a check in Connect Automatically
- NOTE - Connection to the Langara wireless network will only last for an hour before it disconnects. Follow the steps below to connect to eduroam to connect to the Internet for a longer-term when you are on campus.
- After connecting, your default web browser will open and automatically go to the User Identification Portal
- Enter your Langara email (example: jsmith00@mylangara.ca) and password, then click the Login button
- Open a browser and enter wifi.langara.ca in the the address bar
- Click on the JoinNow button
- If prompted, save the file WiFi_langara_College_Wrapper.exe
- Once the download is complete, open or run WiFi_langara_College_Wrapper.exe
- If prompted to allow the program to make changes, click the Yes button
- A JoinNow dialog box will appear. After clicking Next, a new window will open in your browser to enter your Langara email and password.
- You will be promoted to authenticate using Microsoft Authenticator application on your mobile device.
- After authenticating, the Cancel button will change to Done. Click Done to complete your Wi-Fi setup
eduroam, eduroam5GHz, and eduroam6GHz (if your device is capable) will now be properly configured on your device. Your device will connect to the eduroam network automatically whenever you are in range of the wireless network when on campus.
NOTE: If an error message appears, follow the instructions, update your device's network driver or verify the password by logging into a computer on campus
