Managing Microsoft 365 (M365) Groups

Overview

As Langara begins to leverage more cloud applications and features (Exchange, Teams, etc.) owners of shared emails and Teams may find it challenging to recall how and where to manage access. There is a central local that users can go to for managing access to group controlled applications and accounts:

My Account - Organizations (microsoft.com)

Log in with your Langara account and password and you should see an overview of your account with access to various settings.  For managing groups, you will want to click on the drop-down menu under My Account and select My Groups:

At present, you should see something along the following lines:

On the left menu you should see two options: 

Groups I own will be a list of all groups that you can manage the membership of.  This will include Distribution Lists, Teams and any other applicable M365 groups.
NOTEThis does not include SharePoint.

Groups I am in, as the name implies, is the list of all groups you are a member of.  Some groups you will have the option to leave but others are assigned via systems such as Banner or Workday and the option will be greyed out.
NOTEDo not leave a group unless you are absolutely sure you no longer need access.

You can also search for groups to join and put in a request but this is also not currently recommended as the names and purpose of the groups is not always clear.
