Message light blinks but there is no voicemail

Summary

Mitel phones have a 'call me back' feature which will initiate the blinking message light even though there is no voicemail message.

Body

Overview

You may notice the message light is blinking and yet there are no messages in your voicemail.  There is a "Call me back" feature on Mitel phones that can cause this to occur.

Solution

To confirm if this is the case and get rid of the message light:

  1. Without picking up the handset, press the blinking message button.
  2. If someone has left a 'call me back' message, the phone display should show CALL ME BACK? on the display screen.
  3. If this message is showing, press Read Message.
  4. The phone display will show who left the message and you will then have the following options:
    1. Press Erase Msg - Erases the message.
    2. Press Call - Will call back the caller who initialized the message.  Until the original caller answers your call, your message light will continue to blink.
    3. Press More Msg... - Will show the other information of the message such as when the message was left and which local the call was from.
