How to connect to eduroam with a Guest Wi-Fi account

Overview

Visitors to Langara College who are not active students, active employees, or do not have an active computer account can connect to eduroam to gain wireless Internet access on campus.

A Langara employee would first need to request access for their visitor(s) on their behalf via the Request guest Wi-Fi accounts service. The employee would then share the Guest Wi-Fi Account credentials with the visitor(s).

Solution

You can connect to eduroam on your personal device by following the steps listed for each platform/device type.

CAUTION - Make sure you have your Guest Wi-Fi Account credentials ready before proceeding. The user name will be whatever you were provided with, ending with @langara.ca. For example, username@langara.ca

Android Phone/Tablet

To connect your Android phone or tablet to the eduroam wireless network, follow the steps below.

TIP - If your phone has a data plan, you can skip directly to the section on connecting to eduroam.

If you do not have a data plan on your device, follow these steps first:

Open the Settings app
Go to Connections, then Wi-Fi
In the lists of networks select Langara. You will then be prompted to sign in.
Enter your Langara email address and password
Tap the Login button
You will now have Internet access to follow the next set of steps to connect to eduroam

NOTE - Connection to the Langara wireless network will only last for an hour before it disconnects. Follow the steps below to connect to eduroam to connect to the Internet for a longer-term when you are on campus.

Proceed to the steps below to complete the connection to eduroam.

Open any Internet browser, such as Chrome
In the address bar, type and go to https://cloud.securew2.com/public/94463/Groups/LangaraCollege/. Or click on the link if viewing this on your device
Tap on the appropriate link based on the version of Android OS installed on your device
Tap the Download button to bring up the Google Play Store App to install SecureW2 JoinNow app
- If you are not prompted for credentials, use the Chrome browser and click on JoinNow button.
Tap Install to download the SecureW2 JoinNow App (Do not open the App)
Return to the Internet browser and tap the JoinNow button
Enter your Langara email address (Computer User ID + @langara.ca for employees; Computer User ID + @mylangara.ca for Students) and password
Tap on the Continue button, then Next
When prompted, click Save to save eduroam network to your phone

eduroam and eduroam5GHz will now be properly configured on your device. Your device will connect to the eduroam network automatically whenever you are in range of the wireless network when on campus.

iPhone/iPad

To connect your iPhone or iPad to the eduroam wireless network, follow the steps below.

TIP - If your phone has a data plan, you can skip directly to the section on connecting to eduroam.

If you do not have a data plan on your device, follow these steps first:

Open the Settings app
Tap Wi-Fi
In the lists of networks select Langara. You will then be prompted to sign in.
Enter your Langara email address and password
Tap the Login button
You will now have Internet access to follow the next set of steps to connect to eduroam

Proceed to the steps below to complete the connection to eduroam.

Open the Safari browser app
- CAUTION - Only Safari will work to connect to eduroam.
In the address bar type and go to https://cloud.securew2.com/public/94463/Groups/LangaraCollege/. Or tap on the link if viewing this on your device.
Enter your Langara email address (Computer User ID + @langara.ca for employees; Computer User ID + @mylangara.ca for Students) and password
Tap the JoinNow button
Allow the download of the configuration profile, you will get Profile Downloaded message
Go to Home screen, then Settings
Choose Profile Downloaded
Choose Install
Enter your passcode (if one has been set)
Tap Install
Tap Done to exit the installation process

eduroam and eduroam5GHz will now be properly configured on your device. Your device will connect to the eduroam network automatically whenever you are in range of the wireless network when on campus.

Windows Laptop/Tablet

Connect your Windows laptop or tablet to eduroam by following these steps.

Click the Internet access icon in the system tray to see a list of networks
Select Langara in the list of networks and click the Connect button
- Do not put a check in Connect Automatically
- NOTE - Connection to the Langara wireless network will only last for an hour before it disconnects. Follow the steps below to connect to eduroam to connect to the Internet for a longer-term when you are on campus.
After connecting, your default web browser will open and automatically go to the User Identification Portal
Enter your Langara email (example: jsmith00@mylangara.ca) and password, then click the Login button
Open a web browser and type and go to https://cloud.securew2.com/public/94463/Groups/LangaraCollege/ in the the address bar. Or click on the link if viewing this on your device
Click on the JoinNow button
If prompted, save the file WiFi_langara_College_Wrapper.exe
Once the download is complete, open or run WiFi_langara_College_Wrapper.exe
- If prompted to allow the program to make changes, click the Yes button
A JoinNow dialog box will appear. After clicking Next, a new window will open in your browser to enter your Langara email and password.
After authenticating, the Cancel button will change to Done. Click Done to complete your Wi-Fi setup

eduroam and eduroam5GHz will now be properly configured on your device. Your device will connect to the eduroam network automatically whenever you are in range of the wireless network when on campus.

NOTE: If an error message appears, follow the instructions, update your device's network driver or verify the password by logging into a computer on campus

MacBooks

To connect to Wi-Fi on your Mac computer, follow these steps.

Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar
Choose Langara
- NOTE - Connection to the Langara wireless network will only last for an hour before it disconnects. Follow the steps below to connect to eduroam to connect to the Internet for a longer-term when you are on campus.
In the pop-up, enter your Langara email (example: jsmith00@mylangara.ca) and password
Click the Login button
Click Done once you see Success in the window
Once connected, open Safari and type and go to https://cloud.securew2.com/public/94463/Groups/LangaraCollege/ in the address bar. Or click on the link if viewing this on your device
Click the JoinNow button
Click Allow on the pop-up to download the application
Install WiFi_Langara_College_Wrapper.dmg.download file from the Downloads folder
Once it installs, open WiFi_Langara_College_Wrapper.dmg
The little window will open, double click on SecureW2 logo
You will be asked if you want to open the app, click Open
SecureW2 JoinNow window will appear with Langara logo, click Next
When you see "WiFi_Langara_College_Wrapper wants access to control Safari" pop-up, click OK
New window will open in Safari to enter your Langara email and password
After successful authentication, you will be redirected back to SecureW2 JoinNow window
Enter password for your computer to allow the change and click OK
- Make sure you are entering your computer profile password and not Langara email password.
Click Next to download eduroam profiles
- NOTE - You will need to complete these steps two times—once each for eduroam and eduroam5GHz
Click on the Profile Installation pop-up at the top right corner
- If you do not see a pop-up, you can find eduroam profile in System Preferences > Profiles
In Profiles, select Langara College eduroam (or Langara College eduroam 5GHz) and click Install
Click Install again when prompted
Enter your computer password to allow profile installation and click OK
Repeat these steps until all required eduroam profiles (eduroam and eduroam 5GHz) are installed.
- If your computer does not automatically connect to eduroam, click on the WiFi icon in the upper right and select eduroam or eduroam5GHz

eduroam and eduroam5GHz will now be properly configured on your device. Your device will connect to the eduroam network automatically whenever you are in range of the wireless network when on campus.
