YouTube requiring sign in in Windows 11 lab environment

Summary

YouTube is requiring signing in to view videos when using our Windows 11 virtual lab environment

Body

Overview

YouTube has recently changed how people access their service in order to make it more secure. Unfortunately, in doing this, users of virtual desktop environments are now required to sign in with an account to see any videos.

Affected are our classroom lecterns, labs, and Remote Desktop running the Windows 11 virtual lab environment.

We are working with YouTube on a solution.

Solution

To play YouTube videos in the labs, please follow one of the options below:

  1. Sign in with a personal Google account.
  2. If there is a concern with using a personal account, create a new secondary personal Google account specifically for lab usage.
  3. Bring a laptop to the classroom.
